Vancouver Island View

Welcome to Our New Readers
A warm welcome to all of you joining us from the Vancouver Island Hidden Gems FB Group! I’m so glad you’re here. This newsletter is where I share insider tips, seasonal inspiration, and some of my favourite finds from across the island.

Whether you’ve lived here for years or are just starting to explore, you’re in the right place for unique ideas and local insight.

Looking Forward to Fall
With wildfires burning across the province, and far too close to home, I’ve been longing for the cooler, wetter days of autumn even more than usual.

Fall on Vancouver Island has its own kind of magic—crisp air, quieter trails, and the return of rushing rivers and waterfalls. It feels like the perfect time to start sharing articles that will help you make the most of the season ahead.

That said, I know many of you are still looking for fun things to do during these last few weeks of summer. I've got you covered there, too.

Top Places to Go!

No matter where you are on the island, this huge list of ideas will help you explore. There's even a handy map and checklists for you to grab, if you wish.

Please note that a few of the locations mentioned are off-limits right now due to fires, but hopefully, they will open back up soon.

Start Planning

Witnessing grizzlies in their natural habitat is one of the most unforgettable wildlife experiences the island has to offer.

An Important Update

Cumberland Potholes

Please save this one for the rainy season (late Fall through to Spring). Read why in the article.

No matter where you roam, have a fantastic weekend!

Vancouver Island View Fall on the Island is my happy place. Moody mornings, golden maples, quiet beaches, and that first excuse to order something cinnamon-spiced. (No pumpkin-spice for this girl). This week I’ve got three goodies for you: a brand-new Fall Itinerary, a playful list of haunted places (it’s that time!), and an ebook deal you’ll want to grab before it disappears. 5-Night Fall Itinerary Think scenic detours, salmon-run lookouts, forest walks, and storm-watching cozy-ups. I put...

Vancouver Island View As the seasons shift, Vancouver Island shows off a quieter kind of beauty. While the east coast of Canada is famous for fiery displays of maples, our forests here take a different approach. You won’t find endless stretches of scarlet and crimson, but what you will find is a stunning mix of golds, yellows, and soft russets set against deep evergreens — a contrast that feels uniquely west coast. I’ve refreshed my Fall Foliage article with the best spots to see these...

Vancouver Island View This week, I’ve updated two of my most popular articles: Port Renfrew’s biggest trees and Cape Scott Provincial Park. Both destinations showcase the raw, untamed beauty of Vancouver Island. It's the kind of experiences that make you feel small in the best possible way. The catch? These areas aren’t always the easiest to reach. Rugged backroads often stand between willing explorers and the magic of places like the Red Creek Fir or the windswept shores of Cape Scott....
