Island Hopping this Spring

Vancouver Island View

The sun is shining, patios are filling up, trails are bursting back to life, and yet…summer crowds still haven’t fully arrived.

So it's the perfect opportunity for a little island getaway to a few of my favourite spots.

First up is Saysutshun (Newcastle Island Marine Provincial Park). Just a short ferry ride from Nanaimo, this island feels worlds away, with coastal walking trails, beaches, forest paths, and fascinating layers of history tucked throughout the island.

Or head over to Pender Island, where winding roads, ocean viewpoints, and quiet coves make spring exploring especially rewarding. This time of year, the island still feels wonderfully relaxed, making it perfect for slow mornings and scenic drives.

And finally, there’s Salt Spring Island. Spring is such a beautiful time to visit before the summer buzz arrives. Think farm stands, artisan shops, ocean air, and long sunny afternoons that make you want to linger just a little longer.

If you’ve been craving a quick getaway, this might just be the perfect season for it.

Saysutshun (Newcastle Island)

This 363-hectare marine provincial park blends coastal forest trails, sandy beaches, rich Indigenous history, and family-friendly amenities, all without needing a car.

Pender Island

From lush forests and picturesque coastlines to vibrant communities, Pender has something for every kind of explorer.

Salt Spring Island

With its scenic beaches, forested trails, beautiful farmland, and strong creative spirit, Salt Spring is the perfect place for a romantic retreat. But it’s also a wonderful destination for families, too!

Enjoy that sunshine, and happy Mother's Day to all you Moms out there!

Vancouver Island View Every year, I spend a good chunk of my time revisiting and refreshing the 260+ articles already published on Vancouver Island View. There’s always something new to add, update, or revisit somewhere on the island. But every once in a while, a place inspires me to create something completely new instead. That happened during a recent trip to Victoria, when I finally checked the last garden off my personal must-visit list: The Gardens at HCP. And it was even more beautiful...

Vancouver Island View I spend a lot of time exploring all across Vancouver Island, chasing new places and experiences. But every now and then, I’m reminded that some of the best spots are the ones right here at home. After revisiting a few old favourites in Nanoose Bay, I thought I’d share, so you can perhaps revisit as well. Moorecroft Regional Park (Updated) If you’ve been following along for a while, you already know this is a place I keep coming back to. And for good reason. Moorecroft...

Vancouver Island View If you’ve been craving a little fresh air lately, this week’s lineup is a good one. Three completely different adventures, each with that “totally worth it” feeling at the end. 1. Explore the wild side of Vancouver Island without the added stress of getting there. San Josef Bay has become quite popular over the last few years (rightly so!), but the road to it hasn't improved. It's extremely rough. Most car rental companies don't allow travel on this logging road, and...
